I have just purchased a set of these Turbos for my 3000GT (UK Spec 3000GT)
Now I’m not a mechanic by trade, but I would say an ability to do things practical is a must, otherwise equipped with a good set of DIY tools they are a DIY fit, just depends upon how robust your hands are to the cuts you will receive to the backs of you hands.
To fit these Turbos you will need to do the following.
Drop the downpipe, drop the rear and front pre-cats remove all the heat shields, and rear intercooler pipe, the battery, Y-pipe, air filter, and associated pipe work, pull out the radiator, and the battery side rear plenum support bracket. (This may need to be modified.)
Also some modification to the front lower engine mount may be needed, as on my car this was quite close to the turbo outlet and I could not get the Turbo outlet silicone hose to push onto the Turbo Outlet without removing some of one side of this mount, offside leg.
With those removed it is possible to fit these with no further removal of parts.
It took me 3 days solid work, assuming an 8 hour day and rests for lunch etc. I was waiting around for some parts to arrive and this delayed the fitment of the Turbos, so it is possible to do this conversion in two days, if you work constantly.
Expect some of front turbo to manifold bolts to be seized and need breaking off with a large extension or breaker bar (safest to remove front cam cover to avoid damage in this case). Also a good soaking every morning and night for a couple of days with something like WD40 is a must to aid removal
Fitting is just the reverse of disassembly, and I would suggest that it is accompanied with a set of replacement manifolds/pre-cat eliminators as that’s not much more work (but at least another day on top to accomplish).
Would also advise, as Rob is doing so now, not to replace the rear manifold with a stainless steel one, as they are just too brittle, and crack , involving a repeat two day job a couple of months later when it has cracked.
The standard rear exhaust manifold is good enough for most applications.
If considering these as an BHP upgrade, 550cc injectors and some form of boost control/air fuel control will be necessary also , so budget for these as too.
Results will vary of course from car to car, but I noticed a significant major improvement after adding these Turbos and doing all the above mentioned modifications. The car is now incredibly quick and pound for pound nothing can beat these Turbos for an amazing power upgrade
